Laser Printers – How laser works on paper!

Laser Printer Explained!

Laser Printers – the device we all use to print stuff on paper! But isn’t the name itself very outrageous. I mean if you just observe, how could laser print words on paper. Won’t something which can melt down metal, do the same to paper. Ever thought of that? No! But now I got you thinking. Is it not it! Let’s get over with the whole thing once and for all.

Laser!

Now, this is not something, which I need to ponder upon. I mean comm’on, who doesn’t know that. Still, let’s have a look what Wikipedia has got to say about it…

laser is a device that emits light through a process of optical amplification based on the stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation. The term “laser” originated as an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation“.

Basically, lasers are used to cut metals, nano drilling, cutting stacks of clothes in textile industries, breaking stones present inside the human body, etc. Let’s begin with the working of laser printers.laser printers

Laser Printers – Let’s have a rain check!

Laser Printers are similar to Photocopiers using the same basic technology. Laser printers took birth with the modification of Photocopiers. Before proceeding forward let’s brief you about Photocopiers. Photocopier uses a bright light to make an exact copy of a printed page. The light gets reflected off the page onto a light-sensitive drum. Static Electricity( the reason behind sticking of paper pieces onto a scale when rubbed on the head) plays a role of driving force and makes the ink particles to stick to the drum and then it is transferred to papers using hot rollers.

Working of Laser Printers

Laser Printers works very similarly to the above-explained concept. As there is no original page to copy the laser has to take care of all these from the scratch. Moving towards having a closer look at how data is stored on our Computer. It uses a microscopically small switching devices called Transistors. The Printer has to convert this electronically stored data into pictures. For doing so this electronic data is used to control laser beams in laser printers. This laser beams throw ink to papers or draw images into the paper. This is done using the concept of STATIC ELECTRICITY as in the case of photocopiers.
